報告摘要:Random genetic drift is a key process in population genetics and evolution. The single most important approach to random genetic drift is the diffusion approximation. In this talk I introduce random genetic drift and the diffusion approximation. I show how singular solutions of the diffusion equation can arise, and that these singular solutions have biological significance, associated with absorption at a boundary. The singular solutions lead to a consistent approach to random genetic drift. I will discuss some additional results that arise from solutions of the diffusion equation.

報告人簡(jiǎn)介：David Waxman教授畢業(yè)于英國薩塞克斯大學(xué)，師從英國皇家學(xué)會(huì )會(huì )員、2003年諾貝爾物理學(xué)獎獲得者Anthony J. Leggett 教授，取得了理論凝聚態(tài)物理學(xué)博士學(xué)位，此后轉入計算系統生物學(xué)領(lǐng)域，將定量分析方法應用于生物學(xué)研究。David Waxman教授是復旦引進(jìn)的首批全職“外專(zhuān)局千人計劃”教授。
